What is a Catio ?

A catio is a type of outdoor enclosure for cats, designed to provide a safe and stimulating environment for them to play, exercise, and relax in. The term “catio” is a portmanteau of “cat” and “patio,” and it typically refers to a screened-in or enclosed area that attaches to a house or is free-standing.Cats love to spend time outdoors, but there are many potential dangers that can be harmful to them, such as traffic, predators, and other hazards. A catio allows cats to enjoy the benefits of being outside, such as fresh air, sunshine, and access to nature, while keeping them safe and secure.

Benefits of a Cat Enclosure

Introducing a catio to a cat can have a positive impact on their behavior and overall well-being. Here are some of the ways our customers/I have noticed a change in the cats behaviours after we have built them a Catio.

Increased activity and exercise

Cats are natural hunters and explorers, and a catio provides a safe and stimulating environment for them to engage in these behaviours. With access to fresh air and outdoor space, cats are likely to become more active and get more exercise, which can improve their physical health and reduce stress.

Reduced stress and anxiety

Cats are natural hunters and explorers, and a catio provides a safe and stimulating environment for them to engage in these behaviours. With access to fresh air and outdoor space, cats are likely to become more active and get more exercise, which can improve their physical health and reduce stress.

Improved mood and behavior

Cats that are allowed to spend time outside are generally happier and more content. With a catio, cats can get the benefits of outdoor time without the risks. As a result, they may exhibit more positive behaviors, such as increased playfulness, affection, and socialization

Better overall health

With access to fresh air and sunshine, cats can get the vitamin D they need for healthy bones and immune function. Additionally, the increased activity and reduced stress that comes with a catio can improve overall health and well-being.

Important Note

It’s important to note that every cat is unique, and their behavior may vary after a catio is built. Some cats may be more reluctant to explore the space, while others may quickly adapt and make it their new favorite spot. It’s important to give cats time to adjust to their new environment and to provide plenty of positive reinforcement and encouragement.
